It was a hot summer's day. Clara was drinking a glass of juice in the garden. The grass was long, and her mom was cutting the grass with a lawn mower(割草机). Suddenly, the lawn mower stopped working. Clara's mo m looked upset and picked something up out of the grass. Clara wondered what was wrong and went closer. Her mom had a turtle(乌龟) in her hand!

"I think I broke its leg,"she said to Clara."I'm really sorry. Will you help me take care of it until it gets well?"Clara felt bad for the little turtle. Turtles move slowly, so it probably could not run away when it saw the lawn mower coming. And Clara's mom could not see the turtle in the long grass! It was a mistake, but Clara and her mom would make up for it.

Clara named the turtle Phillip. She and her mom took Phillip to the vet(兽医). The vet took an X-ray of Phillip's leg, which showed that it was broken. The turtle got a bandage for his broken leg. The vet told Clara that Phillip needed plants to eat, water to drink and a place to live in. Clara took the turtle home and took good care of him. She brought him fruit and leaves to eat and kept his water bowl clean. Phillip seemed to feel better.

After eight weeks, Clara and her mom took Phillip back to the vet, who said that his leg was healed. Clara was both happy and sad. She was happy because Phillip got better, but sad because she had to let him go. When Clara got home, she kissed Phillip, said goodbye, and let him go.Clara would always remember Phillip.

Coral Reef is Suffering

The Great Barrier Reef(大堡礁) in Australia, the world's largest coral(珊瑚) reef system and home to many kinds of sea animals, is in great danger. It is now experiencing its third mass bleaching(白化) in five years, resulting in the death of large amounts of coral.

"We know this is a mass bleaching event and it's a serious one,"Professor Terry Hughes told The Guardian. Professor Terry Hughes, one of the world's leading experts on the reef, said it is far more serious than former mass bleaching events. It is a clear signal(信号) for people to take action.

Coral bleaching refers to the death of coral caused by high water temperatures. Global warming has caused ocean temperatures to rise, resulting in more frequent bleaching events. Many tropical(热带的) coral reefs will disappear if temperatures continue to rise, according to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

As more of the Great Barrier Reef bleaches and dies, the animals that depend on it will die off as well. About 500 million people depend on the reef and the animals there to make a living,according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The ocean fishing industry, for example, depends on the fish living in the Great Barrier Reef,as well as other reefs around the world. Reefs also protect coastlines from the damaging(有破坏性的) effects of tropical storms, as well as promote(促进) tourism, according to the Queensland Museum. Humans will be heavily influenced by their disappearance.

When I was about 12 years old, I really wanted a new bike! I told my parents my birthday wish, but I knew there was little hope because my family could hardly afford it.

On my birthday my parents told me they had my gift outside in the backyard. At once I rushed out to the yard. There was my bike, but it wasn't the bike that I thought it would be. This one was pink, old and worn with age. It was so disappointing! I thought I hurt my parents' feelings because I was sure they could see the disappointment on my face. I got on the old bike and rode it,feeling bad that I had made my parents feel this way. So I put on a smile, rode as fast as I could and didn't look back.

As time went by, I began to understand that my parents gave me something much more than just a rusty(生锈的) old bike. They gave me a life lesson about love. When you give something out of love, it doesn't matter what it is. What matters is the love that is in it. I like to remember this story because giving a gift is not about money. It's about how much love you can feel from it.Remember this: A gift that costs $2 isn't any less valuable than one that costs $100.

Once upon a time, a boy was walking through a wood and he thought he could hear a sad cry.Following the sound he came to a big, round, mysterious, gray fountain(喷泉). The sad sound seemed to be coming from the fountain pool. The boy swept aside the pool's dirty surface water and saw a group of gray fish swimming in a slow circle through the pond.

Amused by this, the boy tried to catch one of these unbelievable talking fish. But when he stuck his arm into the water it turned gray right up to the elbow. As this happened, a huge sadness entered into him, and he suddenly understood how sad the fish were feeling.

He quickly pulled his arm out of the water, and ran from that place. But the arm stayed gray,and the boy continued feeling sad. He tried so many times to cheer himself up, but nothing worked. That was, until he realized that if he were to make the Earth happy then that happiness would be, in turn, transmitted(传输) back to him, through the earth on his arm.

From then on, he set about looking after the countryside. He cared for the plants, and he did what he could to keep the water from being polluted. He encouraged others to do the same. He was so successful that his arm started to recover (恢复) its normal color. When the gray had disappeared completely, he started feeling happy again, and he decided to go and visit the fountain.When he was still some way from the fountain he could hear the fish singing happily.

The aim(目的) of students who come to school is to study. But study requires a right way, or you waste both the time and the money. The following are the ways for studying.

The best time for reading is morning, because in the morning, the air is fresh and the mind is clear. For that reason, we can get good results.

In studying we must have patience. If we have not known a text well, we must read it again.We should not read the next one till we have learned the first one.

When we are studying, we must put our hearts into the book, or we can get nothing from the book while we are reading.

We must always ask"why". If it is not well understood, write it down and ask our teachers or our parents, brothers or friends. In any possible way, we must know it completely and what we've learned can be used well and made better.

Though there are many ways for studying, the above mentioned will be quite enough if we can keep them in heart and do so.
